cloudav-beta3

Some of the most important and notable changes over the previous version are the following:

  • New improved interface.
  • New website design and services.
  • New Collective Intelligence Real-time Activity Monitor.
  • New Technical Support Forums.
  • Fixed slowness of PC after install.
  • Fixed most cases of scan stuck at X% and errors during scan.
  • Fixed “Problems with Internet connectivity” popup message.
  • Fixed BackgroundScan by deactivating many unnecessary operations.
  • Improved performance based on cache optimization (much less CPU utilization).
  • Improved performance based on memory management (less memory consumption).
  • Improved management of Recycle Bin and restoration of disinfected objects.
  • Improved quick scan option.

Panda Cloud Antivirus Beta3 introduces a new website at http://www.cloudantivirus.com where people are able to create accounts and use those credentials to login to their Panda Cloud Antivirus product instead of using license keys which need to be renewed every year. This allows users to access the online Support Forums and other Panda Cloud Antivirus services which we’re still building.

I really don’t like this account idea. I would rather have option to generate some unique id (which i always can change by reinstalling software). As for now, Panda CAV is out of my system.

Anyway, it’s promising technology and I’m sure people will find it useful.

  2. October 26th, 2009 at 22:00 | #2

@Barthez It’s just a unique identifier that is tied to the Tech Support Forums to be able to provide better support. You can use a throw-away mailbox to activate it if you rather have that.

@W!ldGunM@n it’s currently being uploaded to a mirrored site. Please try again.

    My browser tells me:

    Server not found
Firefox can’t find the server at http://www.cloudantivirus.com. :-(

  8. October 26th, 2009 at 22:20 | #8

@W!ldGunM@n It seems the DNS changes are still propagating. Give it some time and try again later.

  9. October 26th, 2009 at 22:48 | #9

A-MA-ZING website! But the Threat Information counter it’s really real-time? It seems to be so slow and regular… It’s done with javascript? :)

This newest version showed me a “Code 1″ error when doing a scan. I enabled catching exceptions and I’ll send you the dumps via http://FTP...

It says it’s necessary to reboot to delete some viruses, and the Panda icon shows the same red cross that when it’s disabled… Maybe will be better change the red cross by something different such as a yellow exclamation sign to avoid confusion?

    Cheers!

@Alex Molina Heiya Alex, version 0.08.85 or 0.90? Also was this the new Quick Scan or a personalized scan? If the latter, of the entire PC or only portions thereof?

    Anyone else have this problem??

    October 27th, 2009 at 01:15 | #13

I noticed that there is a limit to how long the password can be; my initial password was 21 characters and it didn’t work: also, I removed the BackgroundScan registry patch from my computers (since it has been improved) was this necessary?

  14. October 27th, 2009 at 01:17 | #14

    @Matt
Yep, if you want the backgroundscan to work. (It won’t cause any problems now)

  15. October 27th, 2009 at 01:19 | #15

@Matt It’s ok to remove the BackgroundScan patch as the problem is fixed and the BackgroundScan has been limited a lot (only first 5 mins after install to verify the system is not infected). Regarding the password, I have no idea. Please post it on the support forum so the people handling the website can know about it (http://www.cloudantivirus.com/forum/).

I used the executable file for the registry patch, how do I remove it? And do we need to uninstall Beta2 before installing this? Thanks.

  17. October 27th, 2009 at 01:58 | #17

On a light note, the account page says that my registration expires on 22/10/2029. Is that the end of the world or something?

  18. October 27th, 2009 at 02:21 | #18

@Kenny129 You can simply delete the registry entry:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Panda Security\Panda Service Host]
    “BackgroundDisabled”=”-”
If you’re not comfortable editing the registry, simply ignore this. Uninstall Beta2 from Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Then reboot. Then install Beta3.

  19. October 27th, 2009 at 02:24 | #19

@Sam Smoker Yes our new malware growth prediction algorithms have determined that’s exactly when all the computers worldwide will explode due to malware and take the world down with them :)
Seriously, it’s just an internal ERP issue (it *has* to have a date). Please be sure to remind us a couple of days ealier so we can push it back again :)

    Running into this problem now…http://tinypic.com/r/1ywdu9/4

    I’m running Win 7 Ultimate.

  21. October 27th, 2009 at 03:16 | #21

@Kenny129 can you check the installer file properties, under compatibility, to see if you have the “Run this program…” set to something?

    @sina yes you can.

  26. October 27th, 2009 at 15:15 | #26

@Pedro Bustamante It’s with the version 0.90 and I think it was when doing a My Computer scan. I enabled exceptions and I’ll send you the dump via FTP in a few minutes. ;-)

  27. October 27th, 2009 at 15:30 | #27

The file is already uploaded at the FTP: it’s a RAR named “FUJITSU20091027-124259671.dmp” on the “Dumps” folder.

So now I have waited 24 hours for http://www.cloudantivirus.com/ to actually WORK…Until then I can´t activate this program, and it keeps bitching about it. But yeah it´s really light on resources since it´s constantly turned OFF =) Somebody do something.

Just downloaded and installed this.. and I am wondering…am I missing some options/settings or is there no way to set how often/what this tool should scan and when – like any other normal Av program has…?

I tried all kinds of e-mail and could find a PoS download and keeps telling me my e-mail doesn’t tie with any anti-virus account. I even tried a throw away e-mail. What a crappy idea about account activation. Show us the damn download already

@Velsrojs the scanning is done automatically for you. You don’t have to worry about running scans nor updating. We will however add some more advanced configuration later on.

@Joel we’ll be changing pictures often Joel.

    Joel :

Well, I think this picture is so fresh, and the woman shows security and a great power. It’s like “here I am, and remember my face if you are a virus because I’ll disinfect you mercilessly”. I love it. :)

I can’t install this due to it detecting Norton 360. I have uninstalled the Norton 360, but I still get the message. Is there anything I can do to solve this?

    Thanks,

    David

  39. November 5th, 2009 at 00:42 | #39

@David Hall please try running the Norton Removal Tool which you can download from:
    http://majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_SymNRT_d4749.html

If that still doesn’t work give AppRemover a try:
    http://www.appremover.com

After that you should be able to install Panda Cloud Antivirus.

Hi!!! my question is: How can I find the right version of the software installed on my pc? or How can I know if I have to change it to Beta3? That’s because I have installed it long time ago and the Beta3 is just released. Nice website

    Cloud AV rocks!

  41. November 5th, 2009 at 14:04 | #41

@Bryan P. If you open the program there’s an icon labeled with a question mark “?” on the upper right. Click there and then choose “About Panda Cloud Antivirus”. If the version number is less than 0.08.84 then you have Beta2. Simply point your browser to http://www.cloudantivirus.com and download Beta3. Uninstall Beta2, reboot and then install Beta3.

    November 5th, 2009 at 21:32 | #44

I Just install and it seems to my a good antivirus, but how can I keep this soft actualized? I must to uninstall and then install the new version, every time that appear a new one?…this are my doubts.

Pd: sorry for my english, I’m not practized very much.

    See ya.

  45. November 6th, 2009 at 00:35 | #45

    @Geert Smid try from here:
    http://download.cnet.com/Panda-Cloud-Antivirus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10914099.html?tag=mncol

@RUEDAS No need to update. This AV does not need an “update” button. Regarding uninstall/install, you need to do this for now while we are in beta. With version 1.1 we will add automatic upgrades.

    November 6th, 2009 at 17:54 | #46

If PCA uses malware and goodware online database, so what’s about offline protection of a PC? Will it protect a PC without internet connection?

    P.S.
Sorry for my english if there’s some mistakes.

  47. November 7th, 2009 at 00:28 | #47

@Monosoul Panda Cloud Antivirus maintains a synchronized local cached version of Collective Intelligence for offline mode in order to continue protecting even while offline. This “cached version” of Collective Intelligence detects the malware that is in circulation based on the information from millions of Panda Cloud Antivirus users. I’m so happy with the new beta 3. It is so light on resources I barely know it’s there.

For people having install problems (which I had with the last beta version). Definitely uninstall and reboot, and if you have a utility which which cleans out temp files and the registry, run it. Last time the uninstall didn’t clear everything out and I had to do some manual cleanup. Maybe it’s better this time, but just in case… ;-)

  49. slyvella
    November 7th, 2009 at 09:36 | #49

    @Monosoul
Wouldn’t it be difficult to get a virus if your computer is not connected to the internet? I guess you could get one from a file you copy from an external drive, but you would know where that came from.

My friend says, the only safe computer is an offline computer…
