Cloud Antivirus 1.0 Final Release

November 10th, 2009

Panda Cloud Antivirus Beta is finished. Version 1.0 is finally here!

cloudav-10

First of many thanks to the millions of beta testers and specifically to those who have given us feedback and helped improve the product. We think we have fixed all the issues you have reported.

If you have any of the previous versions installed (Beta1, Beta2 or Beta3) do the following:
1- Uninstall your current version.
2- Reboot your computer.
3- Download version 1.0 from http://www.cloudantivirus.com and install.
4- If you already have an account from Beta3, you can use the same one. Otherwise the installer will prompt you to create a Cloud Antivirus account.

As a reminder, don’t forget to use the Panda Cloud Antivirus Technical Support Forum for posting any issues you might experience.

Thanks again for helping us create this great free antivirus !!! :D

    Thanks!

BTW, when will PCA be availible in other languages?

  4. November 10th, 2009 at 17:08 | #4

@Jonas Yep you can still use the advanced logging. Also with version 1.0 we introduce a total of 11 langauges. Check it out.

Yeah, I saw the language list when installing! =)

Which files and folders does the “Quick Scan” scan?

Will this use alot of bandwidth, or be much the same as d/l’n defs?

Just installed this one, the initial background scan went fast, no actual “problems” BUT..Now, 3 hours later, no matter what I do, open up a program, look at a picture or whatever, PSANHostexe goes all ballistic for about 2-3 seconds. Yes I get it, it probably scans every damn thing going on, but come oooon..Now this thing slows down everything for 3 seconds, which actually means this is not “low on system resources” at all. I call it “Gets on my nerves-panda” now..Should I apply that “disable background scan” .regfile or something? Thought that issue was solved..Oddly enough Beta 2 was the one with absolutely no problems. I am running Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

    Perfect timing Panda!
I just de-installed my AVG this afternoon to install beta3, without knowing I seem to have installed the first final release ^_^
(I was getting sick and tired of my manual updating for AVG [8.0 to 8.5, now 8.5 to 9.0])

    Again… PERFECT TIMING!!!!! You’ve won me over…

Can I use this product alongside another, primary security app, like Norton Internet Security 2010? No security product is perfect, so I ask. Any reply will be appreciated. Thank you so much!

  10. November 10th, 2009 at 20:28 | #10

@Jonas System folders, program files and some other important system areas as well.

@J From our beta testing period we’ve managed to discover that on average Panda Cloud AV only consumes 127KB of bandwidth per day, which is basically nothing.

@Laxorm Try leaving it for some time to make sure it fills its cache, reboot, etc. If it doesn’t get lighter quicker please post your problem at http://www.cloudantivirus.com/forum to make sure we can troubleshoot it.

@Dan Brown Panda Cloud AV is a full-blown AV, so you cannot install it alongside other full-blown AV solutions. You may however install it alongside other security apps (sandboxes, HIPS, etc.).

@Cloudantivirus still have bugs What is the output of running a “ping cache2.pandasecurity.com”? Please post the problem at the Panda Cloud Antivirus Support Forum (there’s a similar thread at http://www.cloudantivirus.com/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=51323&tstart=0) with the problem and the result of the ping.

Mr Pedro Bustamante and the Panda staff:

I just want to say great job and a very innovative product. I can tell a big difference when I’m gaming online from beta 3. Thanks, again.

Just Installed for the first time. Only running Windows XP32 and CloudAntivirus and Process Explorer and internet explorer (this is a new build) I am noticing a spike of internet I/O every 30 seconds or so and perhaps increased disk activity as I can here the HDD ticking over every second or a bit more frequently. Is this expected? Is there a way of loading CloudAntivirus into ram to stop the ongoing ticks of HDD spin?
Hmmm i just tried turning off antivirus but it is still residing in the task manager tree

  19. LuSiD
    November 11th, 2009 at 05:43 | #19

@LuSiD found the cause – the HDD is java quick starter – unrelated to Cloudantivirus

  20. LuSiD
    November 11th, 2009 at 06:09 | #20

@LuSiD ok I take it all back – the HDD was due to the automatic smartdefrag in the background and the I/O due to JQS.exe – I’m keeping CloudAntivirus on for the meantime. (and turning off autodefrag and jqs)

    November 11th, 2009 at 09:11 | #22

I have already learnt that Cloud Antivirus provides protection from almost all kind of viruses that may be on the hard drive. Please clarify if it also protects from viruses that may be transferred through webpages, drive by downloads, scripts etc. Will the protection be in real time or when the infection occurs in the system. Please also clarify if an additional anti rootkit from panda or other sources is required. If not then why are you asking it to download in the “tools section”. ?

  23. November 11th, 2009 at 09:35 | #23

    @AL Thanks Al :)

@LuSiD Glad you worked it out. If you have any more problems be sure to use the Cloud Antivirus Tech Support Forum (http://www.cloudantivirus.com/forum/).

    @Steph Nope… not yet, sorry :(

    November 11th, 2009 at 11:00 | #25

Will it now autoupdate to newer versions or do we have to do the uninstall/install thingy in the future as well?

  26. November 11th, 2009 at 11:25 | #26

@ss1 yes it protects against any threats regardless of the entry vector. It works in on-acess (resident driver) so it protects *before* infection.

    @Jacky Brown Thanks Jacky :D

@Woodrowbone At least until 1.1 you’ll have to download and install new versions that come out.

    Woodrowbone :

I think Panda is the only vendor that does not believe in auto updating from one version to the next.

Great Product , Great Work ,
does it support basic behavior analyzing ?

  29. November 11th, 2009 at 16:24 | #29

@Running With Scissors Actually with Panda Cloud we are implementing auto-updates. Look for it in version 1.1.

@buddee It has heuristics and emulator to detect new variants by its behaviour. We will also compliment this with some proactive techniques in the future.

I volunteer at a local school to reformat, remove virus, spyware etc. on the computer labs pcs. They have XP32 bit, Vista Home Premium and Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. We have been installing Avast Home (free). How does Cloud 1.0 stack up and why should I use it instead?

  36. Verle
    November 12th, 2009 at 00:24 | #36

Can you, or do you offer a stand alone version that could be placed on a USB flashstick to scan infected student pcs for virus removal?

  37. November 12th, 2009 at 01:25 | #37

    @Phil Nope.

@russian why do you think this is necessary? It doesn’t really provide any benefits.

@bruno Panda Cloud AV will continue being free. We might add some for-pay services, only as add-ons, the AV will continue being free.

@Verle the recent PCWorld comparative shows the results compared to Avast and others:
    http://blog.cloudantivirus.com/2009/08/31/cloud-antivirus-1-in-pc-world-comparative/
Regarding the portable utilities, check out our command-line scanner, SafeCD and other free Panda tools:

Hi Mr. Pedro Bustamante and CAV team, and users. As usual for those who has problems downloading CAV, OAS is providing download mirror at http://panda.oas.lv . For additional security and trustage an MD5 checksum of downloadable file is published.
Also, Mr. Pedro Bustamante, You are of course allowed to use mirror, provided by OAS for any purpouse You need, share it and You also may use this as alternative download mirrorfor example including link into CAV home page somewhere. My guaranty`s is that mirror will exist and will be highly secure while the project of OAS will exist. And we do not plan to disapear in next… Uhm… Few thousand years. :) ))

    Best Regards,
    Roberts & OAS team.

First things first. I wanted to say thank you for such a prompt reply. Now comes he bad news. Last night I uninstalled my Avast Pro and installed Cloud AV 1.0 just to try it out. It is the last thing to load and doesn’t start properly. I place the cursor over the Panda icon and it sez “fhe antivirus has been stopped”. I didn’t stop it.

    November 12th, 2009 at 21:41 | #45

Is the 1.0 final release version for Windows 7 x64? I downloaded it and noticed no option to select x64 was given. It said x86, so I didn’t install it yet.

    Hi!

I downloaded the software two days ago.

I had an apparent virus that was caught. I turn my computer on one day
later, and the virus had disappeared from the quarantine area.

I was doing a virus scan the other day when Panda caught something. I
was about mid-way through the scan, when I decided to stop the scan.
I thought it would quarantine the virus it had caught. With other software I had used in the past, it would automatically quarantine
the threat, just as soon as I’d stopped the virus scanner. This
    didn’t happen with PC.

Can someone help me with this please?
