Cloud Antivirus 1.0 Final Release

November 10th, 2009

Panda Cloud Antivirus Beta is finished. Version 1.0 is finally here!

cloudav-10

First of many thanks to the millions of beta testers and specifically to those who have given us feedback and helped improve the product. We think we have fixed all the issues you have reported.

If you have any of the previous versions installed (Beta1, Beta2 or Beta3) do the following:
1- Uninstall your current version.
2- Reboot your computer.
3- Download version 1.0 from http://www.cloudantivirus.com and install.
4- If you already have an account from Beta3, you can use the same one. Otherwise the installer will prompt you to create a Cloud Antivirus account.

As a reminder, don’t forget to use the Panda Cloud Antivirus Technical Support Forum for posting any issues you might experience.

Thanks again for helping us create this great free antivirus !!! :D

Panda Cloud is coming along well, and does its job on my XP Pro, and an older machine. We need to watch for an emerging competitor out there call Immunet Protect. I’ve looked at it. It’s gaining ground and apparently stops everything. Advanced configuration would be a plus for Panda Cloud, I think.

@Francisco Thanks for the heads-up. Also please vote for the features you would like to see in the next versions of Panda Cloud Antivirus at:

i was worried earlier in your beta versions concerning compatibility with certain firewalls i tested. the only one that refused panda cloud was comodo firewall on certain aspects. it seems that problem is now fixed! also i notice that panda cloud is doing a great job not hogging my resources, and even dialup works perfectly with your program. i have alot of tweaking gadgets installed, and everything is running smoothly. when i disable panda cloud i would like to see ZERO NET ACTIVITY..this is the only problem i have..thanks sincerly mike

Great news: Panda Cloud Antivirus 1.0 is the PCMag Editors’ Choice

[quote]Panda Cloud Antivirus is impressively effective at keeping malware from infesting a clean system. It’s less effective at fixing an infested system—it finds almost all the threats but doesn’t always clean them up thoroughly. Still, it’s a very good, very lightweight tool even when measured against the for-pay security antivirus available. And it’s the best free antivirus software available. If you’re going to use it, I’d just recommend making extra certain that you’re not already infected before you install it. Wipe your machine: start with a clean install of your OS, and Panda should do an excellent job of keeping viruses out. And Panda Cloud Antivirus Free Edition 1.0 is our Editors’ Choice for free antivirus.

how can i disable background scan in windows 7?

  8. November 14th, 2009 at 23:27 | #8

@Amauri Thanks for the link !

@mike no BackgroundScan anymore in Beta3 nor Version 1.0. Only a small memory scan right after install. You should not notice it any more after a little time after install.

Does it work fine with other security programs like superantispyware, malwarebyte’s and comodo internet security? and should I install comodo whole suite or just the firewall?

  10. November 15th, 2009 at 00:21 | #10

@Hakimy Just as with any other AV product, you should not have 2 AV products installed at the same time. With that in mind, running it with MBAM real-time protection or Comodo IS or any other IS is not a good idea. Try running it alongside other stand-alone apps (just firewall, just on-demand MBAM, etc.).

@Amauri Thanks for the link !

    Hi, Pedro,
Just now I finished reading your old interview at Softpedia (May 16), and I think it’s very interesting for those people who want to know how Cloud Antivirus and Collective Intelligence work - it’s better than any technical explanation posted here. This is the link (found in Wikipedia):

I have submitted a small number of undetected malware samples. I used the email addresses that are mentioned in the forum.

How long does it take for samples that are submitted this way to be added to the database?

    Thanks.

  13. November 16th, 2009 at 01:42 | #13

@guest Depends on the type of malware, but usually within a few hours max. If you still see any of the samples undetected let me know.

  14. November 16th, 2009 at 19:36 | #14

This was a recent test that maleware research group did on the top av/security products. Project 3 testing.

I sent three samples two or three days ago. Hopefully I did everything correctly.

Anyway, they are undetected at the moment.

    This is one of them:

    What should I do? Resend?

    November 18th, 2009 at 21:38 | #20

@Dan Brown Panda Cloud AV is a full-blown AV, so you cannot install it alongside other full-blown AV solutions. You may however install it alongside other security apps (sandboxes, HIPS, etc.).

in fact you know,if i install panda cloud av frist every thing goes ok~why?

    November 23rd, 2009 at 16:46 | #23

Hey Pedro.. Your cloud Antiviris is very Good. I like it very much..
but my dear frend there is a small issue, some of my .exe files(programs) like ‘BandwidthMoniter’,'Ramcleaner’,etc are nutralized by panda. Do u hav any solution for this?

  24. November 25th, 2009 at 18:34 | #24

@Wd Yes absolutely. It detects and disinfects virus, trojans, backdoors, worms, adware, spyware, rootkits, etc.

@farzin dabiri Yes of course Panda Cloud Antivirus is a full antivirus solution, with real-time protection as well as on-demand scans.

@Nizam Simply go to the Recycle Bin (click on lower right corner) and unblock these. If you cannot find it there, go to “Can’t find what you’re looking for?” link in the Recycle Bin.

how to delete virus’s with tihs av.

  29. November 30th, 2009 at 12:21 | #29

@Mark Kubicki Please send me (pedro.bustamante@pandasecurity.com) your email address and we’ll activate it manually.

  30. November 30th, 2009 at 12:23 | #30

@ganesh Panda Cloud Antivirus automatically disinfects and deletes viruses and malware, so you don’t need to worry about how to delete.

Only with suspicious (heuristic detection) and potentially unwanted applications, they go for some time to the Recycle Bin (from CloudAV, click on bottom-right corner to flip the screen and show Recycle Bin). From Recycle Bin you can restore any of these detections if you want. If you want to completely delete them, simply use the shortcut CTRL-SHIFT-D.

How do I get an acount to start the anti virus?

  39. December 13th, 2009 at 23:34 | #39

@erimtana Post the failed installation log in the support forums (http://www.cloudantivirus.com/forum) to get a solution. But it sounds like there are still traces left from a previous AV install. Check here for uninstallers before you try installing PCA again:

@CFCS Simply go to http://www.cloudantivirus.com and register for a free account.

Why panda cloud not have update manager like another antivirus?

  41. December 15th, 2009 at 02:53 | #41

@Kevin Aprilio Because it doesn’t need to be updated like other antivirus. As it works in-the-cloud in real-time, it is always up-to-date with the latest information on malware.

pedro, i have a few comments about this software. first, in regards to a comment you made on the blog about the common misconceptions about cloud-based antivirus solutions, you say that only the circulating viruses are sent as part of the cache, which means that win98 and DOS viruses are not detected. i realize that Panda Cloud antivirus is not compatible with win98 machines, however, from the gaming perspective, as well as low-level tech support perspective, i know that win98 has it’s purpose. i have a rig meant for old games that no longer run on modern systems. it runs 98. i am required to use avast (a poor excuse for antivirus) to protect it. i would rather use on av solution to protect all the systems on the network.
Second: in regards to schedualed scans, is the system capable of such a thing? it would provide far more protection if Coud AV did regular, auto-scanning at a pre-determined time.
and third: as a support tech, i know for a fact that the microsoft antivirus 2009 trojan is a huge threat. all computers i have seen it on have had major issues, including .exe files no longer being recognized. while i know that this is a huge threat, many people are smart enough that they can usually avoid it. I use the detection and successful removal of that trojan as a benchmark for how good an AV solution is. how well does Panda Cloud AV 1)detect and prevent it from even installing; 2) remove it once installed; and 3) repair damage after removal of the trojan (to a resonable extent of course)?

    Hi guys..

I am really excited about dis product (specially after d review by pcmag)
    had a few queries..

if sm1 could clarify .. I’ll go ahead and download..

So everything works on cloud rite..
k, then suppose I am not connected to the Internet (say for a day or a week) then does it still scan files that I transfer to my PC offline (ie via a thumb-drive / cd etc.) [I understand dat wid traditional AVs also not updating for a week is equivelent to having no AV (for the newer viruses); but atleast it does fix malwares (whose defination is already in its database)]

I’m currently using your free cloud antivirus program on an XP machine. Do
you recommend also installing PC Tools Threatfire for additional protection
or have you found incompatibilities? I WAS using the free Comodo firewall,
but now am using Windows own firewall. So, my existing security protection
is Windows firewall and Panda Antivirus…..is that enough ?

    Pedro,
I have been using Panda Cloud constantly since it went into Final version. Great program.

Why does it not start immediately upon my PC booting into the Windows GUI? I am using Windows XP SP3. The little X appears in the Panda icon in the System Tray for about 10-15 seconds then disappears. Is it because that Nano Service is slow to start?
